Construction Risks

You can manage construction risks. Risks like contractor injury, faulty workmanship, inferior materials and chronic delays can lead to results you never imagined. I will show you how to protect and insulate yourself from these costly mistakes with a step by step method shown with the links.

Manage Your Construction Risks

Each GREEN remodeling project has its own quirks in addition to the usual construction process. I will first help you understand the basic construction process I learned during my 23 years of experience as an estimator and project manager for industrial projects. The three basic steps of the process (very much oversimplified) are bidding, execution and cleanup.

Each of these steps include many different variables, all of which cannot be covered in this forum. The steps included are the basic ones necessary for every project. The first steps are to research for qualified contractors who will prosecute the work as diligently as you require and state in your bid documents. If you do not include the "necessary" items then you could be liable for an additional charge (change order) which could be onerous. Again, always limit your construction risks or you may be burdened with high additional costs.

The best way to prepare is to know the best questions to ask.

Basic Steps

These same basic steps apply to every type of construction project including GREEN project. I have broken down the different projects to inside the home, on the exterior of the home and outside the home in the yard. All these projects are in a different section.

The bid process requires the most research, preparation and attention to detail for the project. This is your most important step to manage and eliminate construction risks for GREEN or any type of home construction, restoration or renovation project. The following four sections are a logical guide for you to assemble the information necessary to thoroughly prepare:

Are you ready to award the contract and have the contractor start when you complete these few steps? Understand these steps to limit your risks so you may make an informed decision and protect your family and your assets.

This all seems so easy. You can find contractors on line and the rest seems so simple … maybe after all the research your involvement could save you some money.
